Changing The World |
In Haiti |
Only a few hundred miles off the coast of
Florida lies one of the four poorest countries on earth. |
80% of Haitians earn $150 (US) per year |
70% of the people in Haiti are unemployed |
60% cannot read or write |
Whole families go without medical care of any
kind. |
Some studies say there is only 1 doctor for
every 35,000 people in Haiti. |
There are more Haitian doctors in Brooklyn than
in all of Haiti. |
Malnutrition has stunted the growth of 47
percent of Haitian children under age 5. |
Almost 1 in 10 Haitian children die at birth. |
Haiti has the third highest number (62%) of
undernourished people in the world.
Haitians have the lowest protein intake on earth. Most subsist on one daily bowl of rice
and beans. |
In spite of the enormous problems facing
Haitians – a succession of brutal dictators, isolation from the world and
such extreme poverty – there is still great joy in the people! |

In July of 1996, Aslan took our first group of
young people from the Red Bank area to Ouanaminthe, Haiti, a city of almost
100,000 people near the Dominican Republic border. |

ON OUR
YEARLY TRIPS TO HAITI, WE HAVE WORKED ON MANY PROJECTS. |
Provided basic medical care and distributed over
$25,000 of medical supplies |
Since 2000, we’ve operated a summer day camp for
150 Haitian children. |

Aslan is only starting to scratch the surface of
needs in Ouanaminthe and surrounding villages. |
In October of 2002, the Aslan Board of Directors
approved our purchase of several acres of property in Lakajou, just outside
Ouanaminthe. |
With
God’s help, we just completed the purchase of our land this April! |
