Just 500 miles off the coast of Florida, Haiti is a nation facing unimaginable need. Yet too often, the only stories we hear about Haiti are negative and rarely do they reflect the true heart and resilience of its people. At Aslan Youth Ministries, we know a different Haiti: a place full of hope, strength, and some of the kindest, most generous people we have ever met.

Aslan Youth Ministries has been serving youth and families in need in Monmouth County, New Jersey for 50 years and the people of Haiti for more than 40 years, building trusted relationships and creating life-changing programs that impact hundreds of children and families each day.  As we celebrate our 50th Anniversary in 2025, we are proud to honor this legacy by launching a special fundraising campaign during Haitian Heritage Month in May. This important effort will support and expand our critical programs in Haiti—including clean water access, medical care, education sponsorships, and workforce development, ensuring that Aslan’s commitment to empowering Haitian communities continues to grow for generations to come.

Sadly, Haiti has long been misrepresented. Following the devastating earthquake of 2010, headlines criticized the “billions in aid” supposedly spent in Haiti, yet much of that money never actually reached the Haitian people. Large multinational organizations spent millions on administrative costs, leaving those in need without critical life-saving support.

At Aslan, we do things very differently. In the year after the earthquake, through the generosity of our supporters, Aslan raised $150,000, which $20,000 went directly to immediate food relief, and $130,000 was used to build our Clinic of Hope to L’Acajou, Haiti. Every penny was accounted for, and every penny was spent for Haiti. Today, 15 years after the devastating earthquake, the Clinic continues to serve hundreds of children and families every week.

Aslan is not a “drive-by” ministry. We don’t simply deliver supplies and move on. Everything we do is built on relationships. We know every child, every family, every story. Our Haitian director, Israel Joseph, has been a trusted partner and friend since our very first visit to Ouanaminthe in 1995. All donations are managed through Aslan’s own accounts, ensuring transparency, accountability, and direct benefit to the people we serve.

Your Support Powers Critical, Life-Saving Programs:

  • Clinic of Hope: Our full-service, air-conditioned medical clinic provides healthcare, lab services, pharmacy access, and dental care for families who otherwise have no access to medical treatment.

  • Clean Water Project: Our deep-water well, drilled in 2009, supplies clean drinking water to over 300 families within a 5-mile radius—saving lives daily by preventing waterborne diseases like typhoid, cholera, and parasites.

  • Solar Well Upgrade Initiative: To keep up with growing demand and reduce diesel fuel reliance, we are working to install a solar-powered pump system for long-term sustainability.

  • School Sponsorship Program: We currently support 15 students in their educational journeys, with graduates who have become doctors, nurses, and leaders giving back to their communities.

  • Vocational Training Programs:

    • Sewing School: Teaching marketable skills that allow students to support themselves and their families.

    • English Language Classes: Offering students access to higher-paying jobs with banks, NGOs, and international organizations.

    • Music School: Providing over 25 students with musical training, creating opportunities for performance and income generation.

  • Agriculture and Food Security Programs: Farming initiatives and food distribution help combat hunger and provide families with sustainable food sources.

  • Community Development and Cooperative Projects: Through OPDA (Oganizasyon Peyizan Pou Devlopman Acajou), we support a thriving cooperative focused on economic development, including a cassava bread processing factory built and operated by local families.

When you give to Aslan, you are not giving charity—you are investing in real change, built on trust, accountability, and love for the people we serve.  Together, we are saving lives, building futures, and restoring hope in Haiti.
